The use of props in La Haine free essay sample

In La Haine there are a few props utilized, frequently representing key topics running all through the film. As the film starts, we are acquainted with our three heroes. They are unmistakably in a ghetto like setting and the general stylish of the zone gives a discouraging and debased feel to the film: this carries me to the main prop utilized. Pot and liquor are passed regularly between the three fundamental characters. These props fill in as idealism from the drudgery of the setting they are automatically positioned in, I trust Mathieu Kassovitz chose to utilize unlawful substance in the film to include additional coarseness and reality into the image; they are in neediness, they face brutality; sedate use is the means by which they get away from their circumstance. Some time passes and the three investigate the French no man's land that has been desolated by agitators the prior night. We will compose a custom exposition test on The utilization of props in La Haine or then again any comparable point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page The character Vinz then leads the other two to a deserted storeroom, to give them something he had discovered, it is a 9mm gun that had been lost by a cop the prior night. I accept that this prop shows the insubordinate and brutal nature Vinz has all through the film. He hates the police and the out of line treatment he has gotten from them, so he wants the weapon as it is his pass to dissident and shoot a police officers. Later in the film he proceeds to discuss the weapon, saying on the off chance that you choose not to retaliate, at that point you’re dead at last lecturing his companions that the weapon is an indication of their masculinity and an image of their capacity against the establishment. Later on, a similar weapon is utilized in a scene in which they rendezvous with an associate. He claims to play Russian roulette with the firearm. I think this scene shows how little respect is appeared for life in the film. The utilization of vehicles as props is a silly support in the image. The way that they are developed to be ‘bad’ and thuggish, and you would accept any of them as being vehicle hoodlums, is then compared against their obliviousness with regards to light that none of them can drive, I accepts this adds an amusing component to the film.

Beware These Scams That Target Seniors

Beware These Scams That Target Seniors Beware These Scams That Target Seniors Beware These Scams That Target SeniorsWhether its over the phone, online, or through a complex scheme involving fake end-of-life planning, sketchy scammers love to target the elderly.Recently we wrote  a post about Florida, scam capital of America, and one major reason why Florida is the home of so many scams is  the large number of elderly people who live there.The elderly, who are often less technologically competent and/or may be experiencing some mental cognition issues, tend to be  easier targets for scammers.But there are at least a few elderly people who live outside of Florida, and they also need to watch out for scammers. So here are some scams that target the elderly and what you can do to protect yourself or the ones you love.Debt collectors, credit cards, fake family members: The wild world of phone scams.If there’s one piece of technology most elderly people can use relatively easily, it’s the telephone. Well, maybe not smartphones, but they probably have a decent ha ndle on the ones with the cords. Unfortunately, the phone is the very device many scammers use to target the elderly.Justin Lavelle, scam prevention expert and Chief Communications Officer at BeenVerified.com (@BeenVerified), filled us in on some phone scams the elderly (and the young) should look out for:“New Credit Card Phone Scam: This scam involves Visa and MasterCard. The scammer will call the victim and say they’re phoning from the Security and Fraud Department at Visa or MasterCard. They’ll say that the victim’s card has been flagged for an unusual purchase and they’re calling to verify the purchase was made by the authorized cardholder. They’ll ask the victim about a specific purchase and when the victim denies making that purchase, the caller will claim to be issuing the cardholder a credit and starting a Fraud Investigation. The caller will verify the victim’s address and give them a number to call if they have any questions about the investigation. They’ll include a 6-digit Control Number the caller must refer to if they call with any questions. Then, the caller will ask the victim to verify that they have the card. They’ll ask them to turn the card over and read off the 3 numbers for verification. Once the victim does so, the caller will confirm that those numbers are correct and say they were verifying that the card had not been lost or stolen. The caller then ends the conversation never having asked the victim to verify the card number. They now have the information they need to make unauthorized purchases using the victim’s card.“Protecting yourself: If someone calls claiming to be from the security department of a credit card company where you have an account, don’t give them any personal information. Tell the caller that you’ll call your credit card company directly in order to verify that what the caller has told you is legitimate.”Lavelle also explained how some phone scammers will use the threat of uncollected de bt to take advantage of you:“Debt Collector Scam: Scammers will call and say they are attorneys or law enforcement officers collecting on a debt you owe. They may have your bank account information. The scammer may threaten to garnish your wages, with a lawsuit, or with jail time if you don’t pay back your debt. The victim may feel threatened by the caller and will give money or provide the caller with their personal information.“Protecting yourself: Ask the caller to give you their name, the name; street address; and telephone number of the company they are representing. Tell the caller that you won’t discuss any debt with them until you are provided with a written ‘validation notice’ which should include the debt amount, the creditor’s name, and your rights as stated in the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If the caller will not provide you with this information, hang up! Under no circumstances should you give the caller any money.”When they arent impers onating business people, scammers will also try and take a more personal approach.“This involves the scammer impersonating a member of the victim’s family and saying that they are in trouble and need money,” warned Lavelle. “In an effort to help a family member, the victim will wire the money to the scammer. In another scenario, the scammer will impersonate a fake charity and convince the victim to send them money as a donation. This scenario is common post natural disasters.“How to avoid this scam? Do not return a call from an unknown number. If they say they are the IRS and you owe money, they are scammers. The IRS will only contact you by U.S. mail.”And that’s not the only way that scammers will try to manipulate the elderly through their emotions.Online dating sucks, but getting scammed on an online dating site sucks much worse.Dating can be tough in general, so imagine how much more difficult it is for the elderly and single. Here’s one common dating scam to wat ch out for, courtesy of Lavelle:“Top Dating Scam Targeting People 55+: One major online dating scam targets older single women. The con artist builds up a rapport with the victim via an online dating website and asks for increasingly large amounts of money to be wired to a foreign address. Then, all of a sudden the scammer disappears with the money. Here are tips to protect yourself:“It’s a big red flag if your online interest asks you for money, especially if it’s early on and you’ve never met face-to-face. Scammers will often ask for money on behalf of a sick relative or travel money to visit you if he lives out of state.“Be careful if he avoids meeting you, especially if he says he will be out of the country. There’s a reason that scammers don’t want to meet face-to-face. If they’re running a game, they will come up with all kinds of excuses to avoid meeting. Some may use work travel as an excuse, others may say they have shared custody of his kids and it’s hi s weekend to keep them, or that an ill mother needs to taken care of. Listen to this relationship advice: Pay close attention to what they’re saying.“When chatting online, make sure the flow of conversation makes sense to ascertain if you’re talking to a live person or a robot profile. Mix up the conversation; see if the person continues to track with you. If they’re unable to switch gears, it could be a robot responder giving predetermined responses.“Research as much as you can about the person before you meet face-to-face. Search their name on Google, search all social media profiles and ask friends if they know them. You might find out that the person has a criminal record or may be in a serious relationship and love already!”The elderly also have to be careful of those who would try and take advantage of their sense of responsibility.End-of-life planning scams: woof.Can you imagine something slimier than trying to scam elderly people attempting to navigate their end of life planning? Well, unfortunately, as Melissa McKinney Breyer, an estate planning attorney with  The Hive Law informed us, it does indeed happen:“There are tons of scams targeting the elderly, but the ones Ive heard most in my line of business are these estate planning events. These scam artists usually have two approaches: selling you a DIY estate planning kit or expensive and unnecessary living trust.“DIY Estate Planning Kit: In these circumstances, youll probably be invited to a seminar with several other elders who are trying to get their estates figured out. The speaker/seller might present themselves as ‘AARP approved’ or something of the like. Theyll teach you about these super simple and cheap kit that you can purchase at a very low price. What theyre trying to do is simply get your financial and payment information. Oftentimes people never even receive a kit in the mail, let alone a follow-up call.“Living Trust Scam: Then there are the fake professionals tryin g to scare people into getting a living trust. Living trusts are more expensive than a simple last will and testament but thats because theyre typically used by those with more assets in need of protection and distribution. Sometimes youll talk with a ‘financial planner’ or ‘estate planning attorney’ on the phone that tries to convince you that youre harming your family if dont take this route.“Theyll try feeding you lies about how awful probate court is, how a will can easily be contested, and that your family is bound to have nothing at the end of it all. They use fear to manipulate elders into buying an estate planning device that is totally unnecessary for their needs, and 9 times out of 10, they arent even professionals!“So, What Can You Do? First, meet with a professional in person. Most of these scams start over the phone or other advertising. We always recommend that you have an initial consultation with a professional before signing up for anything.“Also, ask your friends! Perhaps theyve been the victim to one of these scams. Or, better yet, maybe they used a reputable estate planning attorney to help them.“Finally, be wary of anyone that is pressuring you into making a decision right away (especially if its over the phone). Real professionals typically dont pressure clients into making a decision on the spot. Your estate planning is very important and can be a very vulnerable subject. When someone resorts  to typical, skeezy sales tactics to get your money or information, thats definitely a red flag!”The elderly may be especially vulnerable to scams. But as long as they’re prepared, they can defend themselves!Getting taken advantage of by a scammer could mean relying on  dangerous no credit check loans like payday loans, title loans, and cash advances during a financial emergency. And while safe, affordable bad credit loans do  existâ€"mostly in the form of installment loansâ€"having savings in place is really preferable to needin g  any  kind of personal loan.  To learn more about protecting yourself from scammers, check out these related posts and articles from OppLoans:4 Common Home Contractor Scams and How to Avoid Them5 “Free Money” Scams to AvoidReverse Mortgages: How They Work and How to Shop For One SafelyHas someone ever tried to scam you or an elderly person in your life? Analysis Of The Sun, Line, And Cave - 1163 Words

Victoria McAlister Professor Talcott Ancient Philosophy 5 December 2014 Consistency in the Sun, Line, and Cave Plato’s theory of the Forms showcases that acquiring knowledge involves turning away from the world of senses and moving towards the Forms/world of intellect. Within Plato’s Republic there are three analogies: the sun, line, and cave, which are intended to clarify how things experienced in the sensible world are less real than the Forms. All three analogies are consistent through their descriptions of the differences between the intelligible and sensible worlds. The usage of all three also enables Plato to guide readers through the knowledge process, starting with a simple description of the sun and ending with a full example of how man can reach that sun. Plato starts with the analogy of the sun, which points out the contrast between the visible and the intelligible worlds. Within the visible world man has eyes and objects to be seen, but man needs another object for the eyes to see the object. This object is the sun, which provid es the light that is required by the eye to view the visible world. In correspondence, the Form of the Good in the intelligible world is equal to the sun by the way that the Good allows the forms to be known. Plato specifically states, â€Å"What gives truth to the things known and the power to know to the knower is the Form of the Good. And though it is the cause of knowledge and truth, it is also an object of knowledge† (508e). Should Smoking Be Legal - 1706 Words

Smoking tobacco has been in existence for thousands of years. For most of its existence smoking has been acceptable, tolerable, and permitted in our mainstream society. In recent years, smoking tobacco has been under scrutiny. Smoking bans have been introduced to restrict smokers from smoking in public and private places. For example, restaurants, bars, hotels, parks, and beaches throughout the United States have established the bans against public smoking. I discovered this has significance as it affects society because smoking has been a staple for thousands of years and is now being questioned whether or not smoking should be permissible. As a non-smoker this affects me personally because of the health issues and death of my family†¦show more content†¦The article states that â€Å"your premium is likely to be 15-20% higher per month as a smoker† (East Costs Health Insurance). For example, United Health Care’s rate without tobacco is $148 per month; with to bacco it is $177 per month (East Coast Health Insurance). This website sells health insurance and published this information to explain how smokers’ rates will be greater than non-smoker’s rates. Smoker’s spending is dramatically increasing all together. However, the money is not only coming from the people who smoke. I decided to explore more on this topic because I wanted a more reliable source that provided an increased amount information for me. The article â€Å"The Case Against Smoking† by Thomas Lambert provided a different perspective on health care and spending’s of a smoker. â€Å"A portion of such costs is borne not by smokers themselves but by the public at large† (Lambert). Consequently, my money that I work hard for is covering some of the smoker’s costs. Smoking probably has the effect of reducing overall health care costs because smokers die earlier than nonsmokers. Determined that if all smokers were to quit, health c are costs would be lower at first, but after 15 years they would become higher than at present (Lambert). With that information, it offers another viewpoint that if smoking becomes illegal we would still have to be paying more money. I am a non-smoker and through my research I discovered that in these two articles evidence which Lambert provides is if

In this case, the files were already in the computer of the company whereas in the Therapeutic Research Faculty case there was an express prohibition or limitation to access the site to obtain the information from any protected computer because defendant NBTY chose the first type of subscription that is for annual single user that limits access to one and only one person either accessing information for personal use or for the benefit of an individual patient or as part of an educational exercise. The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act is not applicable in this situation because the Act deals with the intentional felony, that is by knowingly and intentionally committing the offense and causing damage to the conduct that involves an interstate or foreign communication. Nothing is mentioned in this case. Primarily, the concern of the Statute is more on the protection of the employee against the employer who will make, adopt, or enforce any rule, regulation or policy, as well as the retaliation of an employer to the employee whenever the latter discloses information to the government or law enforcing agency if the employee has reasonable cause to believe that the information discloses a violation of a state or federal law, rule or regulation. What Is The Best Alternative To Prison Essays - Penology

What Is The Best Alternative To Prison? ?The U.S. prison population has tripled since 1980 so that on any given day there are 1.5 million Americans behind bars.? (Alternatives 1). There is a clear overcrowding problem in todays prisons. Why? I believe that the population explosion in the prison system is due to the increasing moral decline of America. Prisons should keep dangerous criminals off the streets and keep others from committing a crime. (Prisons 1) One would think that being locked up is to be feared. But in today?s society, criminals simply do not care. ?Incarceration is not effective in crime reduction? (Alternatives 1). But what can be done to fix this ever growing epidemic? More prisons can always be constructed, right? Building more jails is expensive and does not solve the problem. (Prisons 1) So we must now search for plausible alternatives to incarceration. First of all, there is the option of only putting violent criminals in jail. Non-violent criminals could be put into work programs. (Prisons 2) They could spend their days cleaning and repairing America?s highways and national parks. This, in my opinion is an excellent idea! Yet we still have to deal with the violent criminals. There are some different options in punishing those individuals. ?Early release programs let prisoners out of jail before their sentence is complete. This promotes good behavior in prison and keeps the prison population lower. However, many released prisoners just commit another crime and are returned to jail? (Prisons 1). Early release seems as though it would work wonderfully, but alas falls short. I think that prisoners should not be released early, or at all for that matter. They should serve out their complete term. If parole were not an option, maybe someone would think twice before they pull the trigger. And for those who don?t take heed, they would be locked up where they belong. The last option is by far the best in my eyes. ?Before the abolition of slavery there was no real prison system in the United States. Punishment for crime consisted of physical torture referred to as corporal or capital punishment? (Browne 2). Doesn?t sound too bad to me. I believe that the punishment should fit the crime. If a man beats his wife to death, he in turn should be beaten to death. My solution to the prison problem is a simple yet harsh one. An eye for an eye. Send them a copy of your latest resume and the job posting before you list them as a reference, so they know which of your skills to emphasize when they talk you up.Apply in person or onlineDo your research to find out whether t he company you’re applying to work for accepts applications online (in which case be extra vigilant about uploading the correct and well-proofread versions of your documents; usually saving them as a pdf is most effective), or whether you should drop off a folder with your resume, letters of recommendation, and cover letter.Apply here:  Administrative assistant jobsInterview like a proMany of these basics are widely available online- dress professionally, nothing too flashy or revealing or casual, no cologne, plenty of deodorant, neatly groomed and well-rested. Don’t make the mistake I make nearly every time of over-thinking your handshake or arriving way to early and downing a giant iced coffee while you’re waiting across the street!Research the business ahead of timeKnowing how old the company is, who its founders were, what their mission is, and how your position fits into their overall business will help you answer questions like â€Å"why are you the bes t fit for ABC corp’s downtown office?† or â€Å"what will you bring to ABCs professional atmosphere?† with poise and confidence.In summary: know what you have to offer, and know what they need.Be prepared to highlight 5-7 personal anecdotes that showcase your skills It’s not enough to say you’re organized, describe a project you worked on that required you to exercise all of your organizational skills like planning ahead, coordinating with vendors, tracking payments, running an event, etc.Follow up graciouslyThe morning after your interview, be sure to send a thank-you note or appreciative email to everyone you met with- or if you emailed with only one point person, ask them to pass on your regards. You want to express thanks for their time and information, and reiterate your enthusiasm for the position.See the bigger pictureWhen I first started working as an assistant, I was eager and ready-to-please, but eventually, I got burned out on menial task s and what I perceived as a lack of respect- people talked over me as though I were invisible in meetings and seemed to only think of me when it was time to order things.What I had to realize was that being invisible actually gave me great access to the levels of the company where I wanted to work anyway, and that being the one responsible for keeping everyone in pens and copy paper actually meant everyone relied on me.Be the one everyone wants to knowThe all time great administrative assistants, like Mrs. Landingham on The West Wing or Donna on Suits or Joan Holloway-Harris on Mad Men, thrive because they are the hubs of their offices. If you want to know anything that’s going on, you go to them, and you ask politely, and hope they are feeling helpful. This can be you!As long as you recognize when you’re paying your dues, and are generous with your time and knowledge, people will appreciate your role as gatekeeper.Prove yourselfAnother crucial component is being able to effortlessly pull off the impossible- or at least make it look easy. Assisting is all about anticipating needs, thinking ahead, and taking initiative to make the higher-ups’ jobs run smoothly.I used to get exasperated when my bosses hounded me about small assignments. Eventually I realized the way to avoid follow-up emails with the little urgent exclamation point was to communicate quickly and clearly, even if it was just a quick â€Å"this is still in the works, estimated delivery date is 4/12† note that didn’t even get a response. My bosses learned to trust I would turn jobs around exactly when I said I would, and they could rely on me to communicate if I hit a snag.Be a trusted confidanteI am not going to lie. Office gossip is great. It is fun, it builds work-friendships like nothing else, and seems like a great way to boost your own standing when you’re the one with the intel. But, a truly great administrative assistant knows that loose lips sink s hips- if your boss is trusting you with a big project, or access to confidential information, your career will be better served by keeping a lid on it and being worthy of that trust.Look at tasks that seem more personal than administrative as a sign that you’re becoming indispensible- don’t let it derail your other work, but see what professional benefits come after you demonstrate your ability to keep someone’s confidence.Now that you know what the job looks like, where and how to look for it, and what to do when you get there, you should have everything you need to decide whether a career as an administrative assistant is right for you. Resocialization Definition, Discussion and Examples

Resocialization Definition, Discussion and Examples Resocialization is a process in which a person is taught new norms, values, and practices that foster their transition from one social role to another. Resocialization can involve both minor and major forms of change and can be both voluntary or involuntary. The process ranges from simply adjusting to a new job or work environment, to  moving to another country where you have to learn new customs, dress, language, and eating habits, to even more significant forms of change like becoming a parent. Examples of involuntary resocialization include becoming a prisoner or a widow. Resocialization differs from the formative, lifelong process of socialization in that the latter directs a persons development whereas the former  redirects their development. Learning and Unlearning Sociologist Erving Goffman defined resocialization as a process of tearing down and rebuilding an individual’s role and socially constructed sense of self. It is often  a deliberate and intense social process and it revolves around the notion that if something can be learned, it can be unlearned. Resocialization can also be defined as a process that subjects an individual to new values, attitudes, and skills defined as adequate according to the norms of a particular institution, and the person must change to function adequately according to those norms. A prison sentence is a good example. The individual not only has to change and rehabilitate their behavior to return to society, but must also accommodate the new norms required of living in a prison. Resocialization is also necessary among people who have never been socialized from the start, such as feral or severely abused children. It is also relevant for people who havent had to behave socially for long periods, such as prisoners who have been in solitary confinement. But it can also be a subtle process not directed by any particular institution, such as when one becomes a parent or goes through another significant life transition, like a marriage, divorce, or the death of a spouse. Following such circumstances, one must figure out what their new social role is and how they relate to others in that role. Resocialization and Total Institutions A total institution is one in which a person is completely immersed in the environment which controls every aspect of day-to-day life under a singular authority. The goal of a total institution is resocialization to completely alter an individual and/or group of peoples  way of living and being. Prisons, the military, and fraternity houses are examples of total institutions. Within a total institution, resocialization is comprised of two parts. First, the institutional staff attempts to break down the residents identities and independence. This can be accomplished by making individuals give up their possessions, get identical haircuts and wear standard-issue clothing or uniforms. It can be further achieved by subjecting individuals to humiliating and degrading processes such as fingerprinting, strip searches, and giving people serial numbers as identification rather than using their names. The second phase of resocialization is attempting to build a new personality or sense of self which is usually accomplished with a system of reward and punishment.  The goal is conformity which results when people change their behavior to accommodate the expectations of an authority figure or those of the larger group. Conformity can be established through rewards, such as allowing individuals access to a television, book or telephone. Updated by Nicki Lisa Cole, Ph.D.

Problems and disadvantages of agile software development Literature review

Problems and disadvantages of agile software development - Literature review Example Application of the software requires much input from individual and team members. Agile development requires constant adjustments to the processes for the purposes of reflecting situations as hand. In this case, the software requires individuals to constantly switch roles as needed alongside adapting to work environment. Such a domain makes processes secondary to people (Eran and Hillel, 2011). Additionally, agile does not allow for application of narrow responsibilities, policies, processes and multi-purpose methodologies. Consequently, there is much difficulty in merging agile with some organization cultures since it requires identification of a team capable of working independently from the rest (Highsmith and Cockburn, 2001). Those included in such a team are always not subject to same rules as the rest of the organization. At the same time, the constituted team cannot fit well within traditional organizational culture. The implementation of the software requires change in organi zational leadership and culture. Agile is considered a highly participative style of software development hence affecting efficiency of the processes owing to the number of participants involved. The software restricts the size of the team involved in a project which naturally extends project sizes. Barlow et al., (2011) asserts that agile team can be applicable in large projects where the project is sub-divided into relatively independent sub-projects. Such approach has negative consequences since it requires recruitment of higher-level project management capable of coordinating smaller teams (Rizwan, 2012). Development of agile software calls for sub-division of complex project based on architecture. Such division yields different results as opposed to division according to features. The software emphasizes on the use of face-to-face and spontaneous communication which limits its applications. In office environment it requires that the

Memoir Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Memoir - Essay Example Usually, I used to celebrate my birthday at home and only call my friend to wish him a happy birthday. One day, as we approached our birthdays, my friends suggested that we went hiking and celebrate surrounded by nature. That was a completely new experience for me, and I agreed. The only thing left to handle was to ask my parents whether I could do that. They allowed me to go hiking and celebrate my birthday with friends but they were upset because our tradition would be broken. I said I was old enough to decide how I wanted to celebrate. Now that I am recollecting that moment I deeply regret I said so. On the day we went hiking, the weather was perfect, and I was cheerful and optimistic. I could not wait to halt, put up tents and start celebrating my friend’s and my birthdays surrounded by nature around the campfire. I really enjoyed spending my special day with my friends; they gave us presents and said a lot of great words to us. They even managed to bring a small cake and light candles. Everything seemed to be perfect. I felt some discomfort though. At first, I thought it was caused only by the unfamiliar environment for I that was the first hike in my life. With some time passing, however, I understood what was wrong. I realized that it was not only the environment but people that made me feel that way. That discomfort was caused by the absence of my family and the atmosphere of a holiday that our house always has at such days. I have never really thought that our family ties are so strong. Also, I have never thought of myself as of a stay-at-home person. In fact, I have always thought I am not tied to my home and believed that I am able to leave it any time I want to do so. In reality, it appears that my family and the home we live in are the most important things in my life. All these memories and feelings were inspired by photos which I tend to look through from time to time. When I opened the page with the photos

Gender Roles :: Informative

As boys grow into men, many struggle with what makes real men. This struggle often dramatically changes the young person. This struggle is greatly exacerbated by the media’s portrayal of men. Gretel Ehrlich’s â€Å"About Men† deals with the stereotypical image of men and what real men are like. Richard Wright’s â€Å"The Man Who Was Almost a Man† shows a young man who feels so derided by everyone thinking of him as a boy that he buys a gun to make himself more powerful. Tim O’Brien’s â€Å"The Things They Carried† is about a group of soldiers who all have different methods of coping with their own emotions at the death of a comrade. The media, Hollywood being one of the main culprits, often depicts true men as being tall, dark, and physically strong. They don’t feel pain and are able to fight, either with their hands or weapons. They are often emotionally hardened, not showing tenderness. The media presents men as â€Å"macho, [and] trigger happy.† (Ehrlich 127). This presents serious problems for young boys who are starting to mature into men. Young men are often told to be tough and to man up. Many boys are taught that crying is for girls and are called cry-babies if they do cry. This is incredibly hard on young guys who compare themselves to men like Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger and see absolutely no resemblance. These boys are often troubled by a growing insecurity from contrasting themselves to the unrealistic image of men. The insecurity spawned by this idolatry of the machismo can lead young guys to resort to drastic measures in order to be recognized as men. In â€Å"The Man Who was Almost a Man,† Dave Sunders, a seventeen-year-old African-American in the years after the Civil War, says that â€Å"he was going to get a gun and practice shooting, then they couldn’t talk to him as though he were a little boy† (Wright 144). He later reasons that â€Å"He could kill a man with a gun like this†¦ A nd if he were holding his gun in his hand, nobody could run over him; they would have to respect him.†(Wright 148). Dave finally shoots a donkey that will take him two years to pay for, so he runs away from his home and his responsibility (Wright 154). For him, as for many youth today, the desire to be deemed manly leads to many poor choices.

Effectiveness Of Fiscal And Monetary Policies Essay

Effectiveness of fiscal and monetary policies to manage inflation, economic growth and exchange rate volatility in recent years in Kenya. Fiscal policy refers to government policies concerning taxes and government spending while monetary policy refers to all actions by the Central Bank to control the quantity of money supply and availability of credit in the economy. Fiscal and monetary policies play a critical role in influencing the pace at which an economy will grow and its capacity to deal with key challenges both endogenous and exogenous. Kenya faces various domestic policy challenges which include a high population growth rate, high unemployment rate, significant weaknesses in infrastructural capacity, inadequate levels of domestic savings and investments, and poorly capacitated counties to handle devolution. External challenges include security risks and spillover effects from other parts of the global economy. Fiscal and monetary policies affects the macroeconomic stability of the country and whether Kenya will transition into a middle income nation by 2030 as envisioned in vision 2030 through an annual econom ic growth rate of 10% p.a.
